“Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.” - Philippians 4:5 NKJV
In Galatians 5:22, gentleness is enlisted among the fruit of the Spirit. If the Holy Spirit lives in each child of God (Romans 8:9), then gentleness is inherent in us. However, there’s a difference between having gentleness and showing gentleness as a Christian.
According to the anchor text for today’s devotional (Philippians 4:5), our gentleness as Christians must be known to all men (all kinds of people). It doesn’t say, “show your gentleness to all people.” Now that means gentleness is the believer’s possession. And since the Holy Spirit is in you, you don’t need to do any physical work to show it. You only need to be filled with the Spirit.
Here’s my point. You have gentleness in you; be filled with the Spirit, and it’ll manifest in your life to all people without struggle.
How then can you be filled with the Spirit? Just keep praying and spending time with God’s Word (Acts 4:31, 6:2-4). Dear Christian, your gentleness alone makes the gospel attractive to the lost. Pay attention to the kind of words you speak and how you behave towards others, especially those you meet for the first time in your life.
You’re a blessing.
