Refresh Others

“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” — Proverbs 11:25 NIV

A computer needs to get refreshed after its system has gotten so busy, especially when it’s freshly turned on. The moment this gets done, it becomes easier for the user to use the machine for whichever work he wants. But when the user doesn’t do it, that machine will be slow, and the person would be affected because he’ll encounter delays in processing.

You may think this innovation in computing is a scientific innovation. But it’s just a product of what’s written in the Bible centuries before the first idea of a computer came to the thoughts of Bill Gates.

When you refresh others, you inturn refresh yourself because God has fashioned you not to live lonely like how islands exist. You must help others, as they also help you.

The people you’re failing to help today, if it’s in your power to do it, will be the same people you’ll need their help with tomorrow. And if God doesn’t touch such people’s hearts to help you when those moments come, you’ll be very dismal that day.

Joseph’s brothers sold him to the Ishmaelites, thinking they’d gotten rid of the “dream guy.” Thankfully, after over a decade, this Joseph, even though he lived in Egypt, a fully idolatrous nation, never abandoned serving God. So when the time came for him to save his long-abandoned family from hunger, he acquired accommodation for them in the region of Goshen.

You can be wicked to people today, and God will forgive you. But it’s better to ask for forgiveness from those people as an addition to your repentance before God so that they’d not hold a grudge against you.

Choose to refresh yourself by refreshing others. People may not say “Thank you” to you or give you a cent for doing them good, but for the sake of a good database of good works build-up in heaven’s books, continue doing it unto God’s glory. God is not unrighteous to forget your labour of love.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, give me the strength to refresh others by continuing to do them good as you’ve created us to be (Ephesians 2:10). Let me not use their ungratefulness and neglect to demoralise me from obeying you. Thank you, Jesus. Amen!
