“Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sins.” — Proverbs 10:12 NKJV
God’s love has a lot of characteristics. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 lays out 16 of them. But we find another interesting thing love does in Proverbs 10:12. That is, love covers all sins.
You may have read 1 Peter 4:8 and concluded that love covers a multitude of sins (instead of all sins). Today, I’d like you to know that the Bible also says love covers all sins. However, what does it mean? Is it about refusing to confront wrongdoing? Maybe not! Is it about continuous forgiveness? Yes, it’s part!
To say love covers all sins means it has the power to deal with anything that brings separation amongst loving people, whether marriage or relationship partners, friends, or even church brethren; and that entails a lot. Sometimes, to practise this, rebuking offenders is necessary. Other times, apologizing and forgiving one another is the best solution. The situations vary, but the goal is one, that is, for love to cover all sins.
God loves to see people live in harmony, and the way to do so is by causing us to love one another deeply, just as Christ loves His church. As a child of God, you must make silent oaths never to keep offences at heart since that’s the main reason why close friends usually suffer separation.
Do not repeat matters after dealing with them (Proverbs 17:9). See your walk with the brethren as a marathon. Brush off all facts that will cause unhealthy separation amongst the brethren. When someone offends another, cover up for the person. It could require your sacrifice of some money, time, or other resources. In all cases, make it an intentional effort to help one another, especially Christians.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, thank you for teaching me that love doesn’t only cover a multitude of sins, but all sins. Help me walk in this truth by Your Holy Spirit’s empowerment in me. Amen!
