Protect Your Life from Premature Death

[58] “Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!” [59] At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.” – John 8:58-59 (NIV)

Have you ever been in a situation where you felt like your life was about to end? It could be a car accident, getting lost in a city, or something quite unusual in your life. What was your experience at that time? Feeling insecure about your life. Right? But did you know Jesus faced a similar situation?

One time, Jesus was speaking to some Israelites about some hard truths they treasured so much. It was about Abraham. That patriarch, to date, is the most respected one in Israel’s history. The Jews see him as their father, and that is not a lie because God begat Israel through Abraham. However, one thing they didn’t understand was that Jesus existed before Abraham. When Jesus said that, the Jews who were there picked up stones to stone Him. Even though what Jesus said is the truth and never apologised for it, He didn’t stand there for them to stone Him. The Bible says He hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds. Jesus literally went through the crowd, and that is what saved Him from getting stoned that day. But why did He do that?

Jesus knew that several prophecies were written in the Old Testament about how He was supposed to die for the atonement of the sins of humanity. He knew He’d be hit with several stripes on His back, how He had to die on a cross and all that. So, mere stoning would have annulled those prophecies. And since God’s Word never comes back to Him void but accomplishes every purpose for which it was released, Jesus had to protect His life from premature death.

Dear one, what are you doing with your life? Knowing your destiny will determine the direction you take in life. Avoid living a haphazard life and following the trends because your life is too precious to God to misuse it.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your grace and mercy in my life. Help me live wisely in this perverse generation, lest I misuse the precious gift of life you have given me. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
