[12] When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” – John 8:12 (NIV)
In many African countries, power cuts are the norm. The citizens don’t like it but are so used to it that it’s no longer a surprise to them when it happens. However, over the years, crime has increased when people experience power cuts at night. Even thieves know it is harder to recognise them when it’s dark than in the daytime. Also, walking at night is dangerous as it threatens personal security.
However, for the believer who lives in a chaotic world where some of these circumstances cannot be entirely prevented, one has to hold on to the faith that The Lord is one’s light and salvation (see Psalm 27:1). When you walk physically in the dark, especially when travelling at night, don’t let the fear of meeting thieves on the way have control over your mind. Why? Because the Lord is with you.
And now, let’s delve deeper into talking about the dark moments of our lives. In such a season in your life, things are not okay. Right? But did you know that Jesus is not just your Saviour in the highs of life but also in the valleys? When you are experiencing troubles in your life, one big mistake you can ever make is to think God is not with you. The moment the devil succeeds in making you accept that thought, you are in serious trouble.
Jesus said whoever follows Him will never walk in darkness. That means the spiritual illumination Jesus will supply to you for following Him will never make you end up stuck or confused in life. So, the moment you experience stagnancy in your life as a Christian, know that it is time to get back to God so that He can show you what to do. That is what brings the difference. Sometimes, it isn’t all about try-and-errors. It is about what God has said. Believe in Him!
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your grace and mercy in my life. Help me always to remember that in You I find strength and direction to live. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
