“When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” — I Corinthians 13:11 NKJV
Have you met a mature person behaving like a child before? Such a person’s behaviour and ways of doing things are like children, full of errors and problems. That is usually caused by poor child upbringing by parents, lack of exposure or may be related to health problems. But just as there’s a physical manifestation of this problem, there is a spiritual one too.
There are several believers who have been born again for a long time but refuse to grow spiritually. Such are those who get saved but refuse to submit to the spiritual training systems set up by ministries for building them up spiritually, like Sundays and midweek services. They are those who always cause problems because they neglect the very things that’ll help and transform them.
If you want to get rid of a tree, uproot it and forget about the leaves and branches. They’ll wither with time.

Paul said in 1 Corinthians 3:11 that when he became a man, he put away his childish things. So he grew from a child to a man before he could do that. However, notice he didn’t say, “… his childish things left him.” No! He intentionally dealt with them. How? By applying what God kept teaching him.
I love this thing about nature: if you want to get rid of a tree, uproot it and forget about the leaves and branches. They’ll wither with time. In Christ, it’s all about consistently teaching and studying the Word of God. The more you listen and study the Word of God, it’ll deal with every problem in your life from its root causes, some of which will be unbeknownst to you. You’ll then mature to put away childish things effortlessly.
Don’t focus on purifying your character. No! Go for the Word of God, and your life will become gradually transformed by the power of God.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, help me to uphold your Word above my infirmities. Teach me to work on my root with the Word so that childish attitudes will be dealt with permanently. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
