“A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones.” — Proverbs 17:22 NKJV
A merry heart is a cheerful heart. Any Christian who’s facial expression is always happy and full of smiles usually knows how to maintain a merry heart in the Lord.
In Proverbs 4:24, we understand that life issues spring from the heart. So yes, it’s true things happen in life. However, how much they’ll affect you is dependent on how much your heart soaks the news.
If you know the importance of guarding your heart, you’ll not give room for people’s sins and anxieties of life to choke it and steal your peace.
When you’re anxious, don’t lie in your room crying. No! Pray (Philippians 4:6-7). Speak to another believer who’ll comfort you. If it’s your godly partner, get help from the person.
Proverbs 12:25 (NKJV) says,
Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad.
From this verse, anxiety in the heart causes depression. And to deal with it, you need to keep hearing good words, which are only found in the Word of God or on the lips of those who speak God’s Word.
Ezekiel 36:26 makes us understand that the heart of a believer is God’s. Just as you do your best to steward God’s possessions, so I encourage you to be conscious of maintaining a merry heart because it’s God’s property in you.
Learn to keep and store the good word of God in your heart. With whatever you’re involved in, don’t forget to daily spend time soaking in God’s Word and spiritual songs.
Have nightmares or difficulty sleeping because of bad news bothering your mind? Put spiritual songs or audio Bible on at a low volume, and let it play overnight. These spiritual practices help create an atmosphere overflowing with the awe of God’s presence.
Remember that your heart is precious to the Lord. Guard it with diligence using divine wisdom.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray that you’ll help me maintain a merry heart full of Your love. Give me the wisdom to discern solutions anytime I encounter problems in life so that they’ll not affect Your peace in my heart.
