[12] “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” – Psalms 90:12 (NIV)
One of the heartfelt prayers of the Psalmist that caught my attention is Psalm 90:12. In that verse, David prayed that God should teach us (not only him) to number our days. Why? So that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Think about that!
There is a difference between counting and numbering of things. When it comes to counting, the goal is to get a total number of items counted. However, when it comes to numbering, numeric identification is given to each item so that each can be singled out and checked. Many databases don’t use mere counting; they use a lot of numbering. An example of such is the bank account number system. There is nothing like duplicate account numbers. Why? Because each account holder has a unique account number.
Therefore, when David asked God to teach us to number our days, he was referring to God helping us to note how prophetic our daily activities contribute to fulfilling the divine prophecies written in God’s mind concerning our lives. So, there should not be any ordinary day in your life where you cannot trace any good particular thing you did to ensure God’s prophecies are in manifestation.
Refuse to settle for less. Pray and plan your days, especially for how you’ll work so that by divine help, the Lord will help you to see the unfolding of the prophecies concerning your life.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your teaching Spirit in us. Teach us to number our days so that we may apply our hearts to living wisely as we fulfil our purposes. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
