[1] “Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him. [2] By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments” – 1 John 5:1-2 (NKJV)
It is one thing to be born again and another to love God. God loves everybody uniquely – white, black, brown, believer, unbeliever, etc. But not everybody loves Him the way He does to us. Even in Christ, there are some Christians who love Him better than others. How possible? By how much they treasure Him and follow His ways. It varies from person to person. In fact, some people in mega churches, especially, get angry when church service time exceeds by close to five minutes. How shallow we’ve turned to loving God. Mercy!
1 John 5:1-2 nails it hard on knowing whether you love God’s children or not. It says that if you believe that Jesus is the Christ, you are born of God (meaning, you’re saved and hence God’s child). And the Apostle John added that since you are a son of God, you automatically love His children. So, how to know you love God’s own is by analysing how you love God Himself.
In our families, siblings love one another. Right? Why? Because they are from the same parents. In the same way, you can’t say you love God but hate any of His children, no matter how the person behaves. Understand that we have one Father, but maturity level differs from one person to another. So, some children of God will misbehave, and that’s fine. Give them grace and allow them to grow. I pray that you’ll heal from any church hurt that has wrecked your life.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to love Your children as You love everybody unconditionally. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
