[21] “So Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done. [22] And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.” – Matthew 21:21-22 (NKJV)
Something powerful about faith makes me very restful after praying about something. It is its potency to effect change even after God honours it, with or without your direct watch over it. How true is that?
One time, Jesus and His disciples were returning to the city of Bethany. On the road, Jesus approached a fig tree to get some figs to eat because He was hungry. But upon coming closer, the fig tree ain’t gotten no fruits on it. Jesus immediately cursed the fig tree from bearing fruits again. The disciples heard it, and all of them left the scene. Fast forward to the next day, as they passed by the same spot, the disciples saw and prompted Jesus that the very same fig tree He cursed the other day had dried up from the roots (see Mark 11:20). How did that happen? Simply, by faith.
There have been speculations about why Jesus cursed the fig tree, knowing very well that it was not time for it to produce fruit. Do you think Jesus didn’t know what He was doing? He did. He wasn’t a person who lost self-control because of hunger. Jesus cursed that fig tree to demonstrate faith, first to His disciples and now to us (because He knew that event would be recorded in scripture). There are some actions Jesus did for our learning, and this is one of them.
When you pray, have faith for what you are praying for. Don’t pray telling God about your problems, and go back to worrying about the same issues you prayed about. It’s a disservice to yourself if you engage in that practice. Pray with divine authority, lay your burdens before God and don’t give Him a deadline for fulfilling your requests. He will grant you your request in due time.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for all that You do for me. Help me cast away all my doubts as I present my requests to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
