[57] “Now Elizabeth’s full time came for her to be delivered, and she brought forth a son. [58] When her neighbors and relatives heard how the Lord had shown great mercy to her, they rejoiced with her.” – Luke 1:57-58 (NKJV)
Years of studying the scriptures, I have realised that any child whose birth is often delayed or controversial always has a unique life. Think of Moses. His birth was controversial, but ultimately, he became the Old Testament Messiah to the Jews. What about Isaac? His birth was also delayed. Many more people lived extraordinary lives unto God in the scriptures, but their coming to the world wasn’t normal. Today, I want us to talk about John the Baptist.
God sent John the Baptist to prepare the way for Jesus’ coming. But his mother, Elisabeth, was very old when she gave birth to him. In fact, she was so old that when her neighbours and relatives heard how the Lord had shown her mercy, they rejoiced with her (see Luke 1:58). Today, the work John the Baptist came to do has been recognised in scripture. Can I tell you something?
There is great divine mercy for a special child. So, just in case you’re experiencing some hitches in your stomach while pregnant, don’t forget to pray about the child. If you also have difficulties giving birth, know that nothing is too hard for God to do. The Bible says in Psalm 127:3 (NIV) that,
[3] “Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him.”
Pray about your child. Invest in raising your child in all godliness. Plead God’s mercy over your child. Family life will work well when Jesus is the focus. Keep holding on in faith.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your love. For every special child in our lives, we say “Thank You.” Help us raise generations in Christ who will grow to serve You wholeheartedly. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
