[17] “But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! [18] I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, [19] and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.” ’ [20] “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.” – Luke 15:17-20 (NKJV)
When the parable of the prodigal son is mentioned, many people focus on the bad things he did, that is, taking his inheritance and squandering it in another country. But what about the good side of the story that started when he came to his senses after working in a pig farm and still living hungry? The Bible says that when he came to himself, he said,
‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.”’
See that! This boy remembered that even his father’s servants had plenty of food to spare. And since that was so, why should he continue working as a pig feeder and perish? This is a lesson to those who run away from God, thinking there are better work conditions outside the kingdom of God, only to later realise that they are wrong. Yes, it is a fact that employee benefits in many ministries are bad, and so also are several companies. But God’s kingdom is always better than the world.
While it is good to be intentional about growing your economic life, don’t abandon God and think you’ll make it out there without Him. No! It doesn’t work like that. Go back to God even after messing up. Stay humble under His mighty hand, and He won’t fail to lift you.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for embracing me despite my shortcomings and mistakes. I repent of doing things out of selfish interest without You validating it. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
