“[42] Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.” — Matthew 5:42 NIV
Generosity is a cherished virtue in Christ. It’s so significant that it’s a major way a child of God can express the love of Christ to just anybody.
We live in an evil age (see Galatians 1:4). So many people are involved in repaying evil for the wicked things others do to them. But as believers, we’re the light of the world (see Matthew 5:14). Therefore, if the world is filled with darkness, we shouldn’t join those in it to practise the ways of the devil. We must be ready to distinguish ourselves from the norm and wickedness of people’s hearts.
Jesus urges us in Matthew 5:42 to give to those who ask us and not to turn away from those who want to borrow from us. In other words, we should flow in generosity to all manner of people with zero reluctance. Can that be said of you?
Grace is responsible for anything God says you can do in His Word. If Jesus says flow in generosity, stop thinking your provision will be cut short because you gave what you had to someone who needs it, even without having anything to depend on. In God’s kingdom, givers never lack.
In Christ, you shall always receive an overpayment of what you give to the poor. Why? Because God is the one who gives the payment. Proverbs 19:17 NIV says,
[17] “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.”
Therefore, from today, make it a heart desire to always walk with more than enough mindset. Carry more than you’ll spend on you each day. So that when you get an opportunity to give to the one who needs something you have, you’ll not have much. Note that I’m not referring to only money. It can be a Word from the Lord, a piece of advice or even time. The Lord is your helper.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, imbibe in my spirit, a “more-than-enough” mindset that will enable me to become generous to whoever needs help from me. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
