Pythagoras’ Gnothi Sauton is based on the idea that man only begins to get wisdom after he knows himself. But the truth is that man begins to get wisdom after he knows (fears) God (see Proverbs 9:10). How do you know if you’re fearing (reverencing) God in your daily lives? Do you run checks on your life? If yes, how frequently? Today’s article is centred on answering this.
Life is so demanding that if man doesn’t live intentionally, he’ll be carried by any wind, end up living an ordinary life full of fulfilling other people’s demands, a life void of divine wisdom and eventually live contrary to the ways of God unawares.
Test your actions
“But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.”
Galatians 6:4 NKJV
Is what you’re doing right? Are you doing the right thing through the wrong means? Mostly, ill-gotten fame or wealth or influence is enjoyed but for a while. It doesn’t last. When we check our lives to see if we’re doing the right things, we can discover the source of our fulfilment or unhappiness. When we test our actions, we can tell whether they are wise to keep practising them or not. And thus, knowing whether they are in the Lord’s way or not.
You can get that money or that spouse. But is it in God’s will that you are getting them at that time of your life? Think about the things you do carefully. It’ll help you run checks on your life to see whether you’re going God’s way or not.
Watch what you’re taught
What you feed your soul with also affects your actions. For example, you may have heard that God can work in miraculous ways. And so because of that, you can try just anything to get money or your desired result out of it. But I want you to know that not all doctrine is sound. When you apply what you learn from the Word by revelation, your decisions will be affected by God’s teachings.
For instance, in 1 Timothy 6:17, God’s Word teaches that we should not trust in uncertain riches. That is biblical and should be our base doctrine in wealth acquisition. Therefore. that verse becomes a go-to scripture when it comes to business.
Note that doctrine is contagious. So, just as you must study God’s Word for yourself, guard yourself in what you listen to also.
Become a student of the Word and a living epistle of it. Divine knowledge will abound in your walk with God, and you’ll find it easy to run checks on your life by spiritual discernment between good and evil. When you know the Word, you know whether what you are doing is right in the sight of the Lord or not. And it also makes you aware of false doctrine.
