Don’t Be Slack in Your Work

[9] “One who is slack in his work is brother to one who destroys.” – Proverbs 18:9 (NIV)

Have you worked for an organisation where some employees are so lazy that they do the work haphazardly? Usually, when you join such a company afresh, you do not know the immediate behaviour of those people. But after staying there for a few months, the organisational flaws start showing up. That is where most people choose to either lower their work standard to suit what everyone is doing, or face extreme persecution from the existing employees for not following the bad things they are doing. This has led many people, especially Christians who value excellence at work, to leave organisations.

The Bible says in Proverbs 18:9 that anyone who is slack (slothful or lazy) in his work is a brother to the one who destroys it. In other words, the fastest way to ruin your work or make your organisation crumble is to become lazy. Once laziness becomes the culture of the organisation, you cannot do much, your revenue will not increase, and things will eventually fall apart.

I know many employers and entrepreneurs are damn serious about their work and businesses. But if an employee puts up a lazy attitude, you, the leader, are partly to be blamed. State out the clear culture to anyone who gets hired or joins your team, and provide punitive measures that will be enacted for those who breach the rules, regardless of their position. Don’t be slack in your work. Treat people well, but reprimand them when they do something wrong.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your gift of excellence in my life. Help me be serious about every job You give me, whether in employment or business. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
