The Heart of the Discerning Acquires Knowledge

[15] “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out.” – Proverbs 18:15 (NIV)

Every person who places careful thought into their ways is a discerning person. Because of that trait, he is able to discern and understand how systems and things work and can even predict the future outcomes of some activities going on today. Solomon had this. That is why he wrote that the heart of the discerning acquires knowledge. Such knowledge doesn’t come from books or other media content but from thoughtful thinking.

If you are not discerning, you may not know or be able to predict the future impact of some decisions you take today. Some, because of this lack, have ended up in companies, marriages, schools and even certain ministries they don’t like. I get it when people are so excited about any new challenge they set themselves up to pursue in their career, ministry or other areas of life. But I have learned and understood that there is no perfect organisation everywhere, nor are there workplace problems that don’t develop over time, even if the leadership is good.

Sometimes, give careful thought to your ways before jumping into a decision, be it a job offer, career switch, school or anything else that’ll demand some time. For example, if it’s a job offer, calculate your basic necessities and see the amount that will be okay with you before negotiating your salary. Otherwise, you might settle for less, only to realise your salary isn’t enough after working there for a few months. If it’s another area of ministry, you have to add to your workflow, prepare and make time for it. Build a structure to sustain its continuity, including leaders.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your mercy. Help me to be discerning in any decision I take about my life. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
