[23] “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, [24] knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.” — Colossians 3:23 - 24 NKJV
Have you ever been to a workplace and realised all the employees complain while working? I have, but some time ago. Everyone in the office hated the work but didn’t find anywhere to go since they worked for money and not out of passion.
In Matthew 6:24 (NKJV), Jesus said,
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”
The greatest enemy against working heartily for God is money. You’ll either work for money or God, but not for both. It’s real servants in Christ that do their work heartily unto God, whether they get paid well or not. At this moment, I want to ask you, “who are you in your workplace?” Are you the one who brings complaints or helps solve problems?
Ministry isn’t all about serving in the church. It’s all about dedicating what you’re doing unto God, whether in church or not. For example, suppose you’re a shopkeeper. That work isn’t directly related to church. But if you do it heartily unto God, ensuring that service to customers gets well rendered without defects, you’re worshipping God as you serve.
Don’t be distracted by the things happening in the world. No matter what you do, since there are unbelievers still around, people may not reward you as much as you deserve. So stop working to please a man. Do it to please God because if you do, you’ll exceed the expectations of men since your focus will be on meeting God’s standards.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, help me to work heartily for You wherever I find myself. I choose to honour You with the work of my hands in all endeavours of my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
