Do You Love Darkness Rather than Light?

[19] “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” – John 3:19 (NKJV)

Have you wondered why thieves steal at night? Even robbers at the bank in daylight use face masks to cover their faces? It is because light exposes them, which they don’t want to happen. Unfortunately, God’s light and night aren’t in sync with the timelines of the sun. The Bible says in Ephesians 5:8 (NKJV) that,

[8] “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light”

In this scripture, apostle Paul addressed the Ephesian church, who were once not a people of God. When they were unbelievers, scripture says they were “darkness,” not even “in darkness.” Today, this truth hasn’t changed. Anybody who is not born again is darkness according to truth from scripture. And in addition to that, such people are bound to be there by the enemy’s power of darkness (see Colossians 1:13). But there is good news. Jesus, the light of the world, has come to redeem everyone trapped in darkness. How? By them responding to His message of reconciliation through His servants’ preaching.

Even though Jesus has come, He said that men loved darkness rather than light. Why do you think people sought to stone Jesus? His preaching exposed their evil deeds. Today, ask yourself whether you’re part of those who hate to hear convicting sermons about sins you commit in secrecy. Do you love darkness rather than the light? If yes, there is a problem.

Light is light. Darkness is darkness. Light will always triumph over darkness (see John 1:5). But to walk in the light, you must honour Jesus in all that you do. Learn to accept corrections from the Lord in order to amend your ways.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me to love living by Your ways rather than submitting to the deceitfulness of the world. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
