[1] “Do not be envious of evil men,
Nor desire to be with them; [2] For their heart devises violence,
And their lips talk of troublemaking.” – Proverbs 24:1-2 (NKJV)
A few years into the world of work, I’ve come across several people appearing to boast about the material possessions they have in life. And what surprises me is that many of these people don’t even know God intimately, neither are they partakers of the Lord’s move in this generation. Most of them have come to a worldly understanding that life is about your lot and no more about impact, which is not the case. Jesus defined what life (eternal) means in John 17:3. He said,
“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”
John 17:3 (NKJV)
So, the root meaning of life is not about what you have; it’s about how deeply you know God. And from that, your fruitfulness in the natural will be meaningful. Therefore, when Solomon wrote in Proverbs 24:12 that do not be envious of evil men, he was sending a warning to how we ought to think about life – in the way of God and not of the world.
The root meaning of life is not about what you have; it’s about how deeply you know God.

Your unbelieving colleague at the workplace who thinks he has made it in life because of some possessions he has, don’t envy him. He could have used evil means to get what he had. And because you’re God’s child, evil shouldn’t find expression in your life.
Live according to the dictates and standards of God, whether you have many possessions in life or not. He will lift you high according to His pace without any trace of evil in your journey.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your grace and favour upon my life. Help me to live in the consciousness of Your loving Word, that I will not use any dubious means to get what You have planned for me. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
