“Discipline your children, and they will give you peace; they will bring you the delights you desire.” — Proverbs 29:17 NIV
Every child has something stupid attached to his heart when he was born. That applies to both physical children and spiritual babes in Christ. Why do I say this?
When you get saved, your spiritual identity changes, but your attitude remains unchanged because of an unrenewed mind that you possessed before accepting Jesus. It takes time to sit by God’s Word and grow spiritually until your character starts to mimic Christ. But along that process is something extremely essential called discipline.

Discipline may sound like too strong a word to kids. Yet if parents don’t apply it to them, children grow and become spoilt (Proverbs 13:24). In Christ, there are even better ways of disciplining spiritual babes. It’s not by letting them know their sins but by giving them God’s Word so much that it’ll transform their minds. Any shepherd in Christ who disciplines his children in the Lord will enjoy peace because such people won’t come to you with troubles.
Do you have the privilege of having children, whether spiritually or physically? Then start disciplining them in the ways of the Lord. Forget about their reactions when you do it because they don’t know the effect of their misbehaviour on their future.
Be visionary, and see godly potential in children. So that as you train and bring them up in the ways of the Lord through discipline and sound doctrine teaching, they’ll be transformed by the grace of God.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
God, I pray in the name of Jesus that I’ll be bold to be consistent in disciplining the children you have given and entrusted to me despite their bad reactions in the name of Jesus. Amen!
