[16] “Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked;” – Psalms 37:16 (NIV)
We live in an economic world. There is an exchange of money every single day for a service rendered or a product bought. As such, there will always be rich people and poor people in this world. Not all will be rich, even though God wants all believers to prosper in all things (see 3 John 2). And again, not all will be poor.
Unfortunately, some people have equated valuing people by how much money they have instead of how much they know God, which is wrong. Psalm 37:16 says that the little the righteous have is better than the wealth of many wicked people. Think about that for a minute!
God’s not advocating that all righteous people should remain poor and still valuable. No! He, through the Psalmist, is making a comparison here. If you’re intimate with the Lord but don’t have much wealth, your life is better before Him than many wicked but rich people. Do you know why? Because every wicked but rich person usually earns money in dishonest ways, and such wealth will diminish with time (see Proverbs 10:2).
Spend time knowing Jesus intimately. You don’t need to chase after wealth. When you pursue a deeper intimacy with God and He shows you how to triumph in every sphere of your life, including finances, your life will be so beautiful.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, your word says “Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked” (Psalm 37:16). Today, I choose to see my value as how You see me and not by how much money I have. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
