[25] “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” — Hebrews 10:25 NKJV
As a young minister who has been living under a busy schedule for some years now, there are times I feel too tired to attend church services or even to preach. Sometimes, life responsibilities become overly abundant on me, and not all are entirely my fault. But there’s one scripture that has made me place intentionality on being around for these spiritual gatherings. That is, Hebrews 10:25.
In that verse, God, through the writer of Hebrews (which I presume to be Paul), says we should not forsake the assembling together of the brethren. In other words, we should be regular attendees of church gatherings. But the question is, why should we go to church regularly?
Church isn’t a social gathering; it’s a spiritual meeting of God’s beloved children, where we connect to the Maker in worship, praise, adoration and the reception of His Word. It’s only through the Church God empowers people as a group with His Word to live like Jesus every week. Many people don’t pray regularly on their own at home. So imagine what will happen to these people if these people exclude themselves from the gathering of the saints?
Dear friend, whatever God has institutionalised in His Word is for your good, not evil. Jesus didn’t create church to restrict you from enjoying your Sundays. He built it for your sake – that you’ll attend and get the His refreshing message for the time ahead of you. Please avoid giving excuses for neglecting church. Sometimes, the devil is the one telling you not to come. So, as a discerning and wise person in the Lord, stand against the wiles of the devil. Give no excuse for not being around in church. And even if you can’t join the service physically due to travel, make the effort to connect to it online. It’ll help you.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for establishing Your Church through Jesus. I pray, in the name of Jesus, that I root out every excuse of the enemy to treat the church as a secondary matter in my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
