“not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” — Hebrews 10:25 NKJV
It’s easy to get acquainted with church when you’re new to the faith and also young. But as you grow and get busy, you’ll realise that it requires intentionality to become consistent with ministry. Why do I say this? Because many things will take your attention, and if you’re not watchful of your own life, you’ll end up ceasing investment in your personal relationship with God.
Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Hebrew church, instructed believers clearly that they shouldn’t forsake the gathering of the saints. In those days, there weren’t consistent church activities like today. The believers of that time gathered once in a while and listened to the public reading of scripture, and then dispersed. And even that, some were still not coming.
Today, it’s different. There are church events all around, both online and on-site. Yet, some people still find excuses not to come. My friend, God didn’t send you to the world to be influenced by its corrupt systems. He did it so you can affect it with Christ-centred systems and ways of doing things.
Come around the brethren whenever it is possible. Be intentional about this. Don’t say, “I am tired,” “I just returned from a trip.” The excuses will keep coming when you give them a chance. Be firm with your life. Take responsibility to lead yourself and your house to God’s presence no matter how busy you are, especially as a father. You’ll see that you’ll always have time for God.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, I pray that You’ll help me to remember not to forsake the gathering of the saints. Whenever thoughts tell me not to go to church or attend spiritual meetings because of flimsy excuses, discipline my thoughts with what Your Word says. I refuse to abandon the fellowship with the brethren in Christ. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
