[55] “In that hour Jesus said to the crowd, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me.” — Matthew 26:55 NIV
For three years, Jesus did ministry in many areas of Israel by the anointing of the Holy Spirit and power (Acts 10:38). He never joined any government institution or social club. He was setting captives free unto the Father’s glory. But some people didn’t like what He was doing. They’re the Pharisees, Sadducees and some Israelites. A handful of these people proposed that Jesus should be killed. And even though they accomplished that mission, it was the devil who inspired them to carry it out.
In Gethsemane, when Jesus was about to be arrested, He made a stunning statement that struck the soldiers Judas Iscariot was walking with: “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me.”
Jesus wondered why many soldiers got carried over to arrest Him. Because to Him, He wasn’t leading a rebellion or a terrorist group to deserve such an arrest. So He was frustrated, yet because of some Biblical prophecies to be fulfilled, He disregarded the scene (Matthew 26:56).
As a leader, one grievous thing you shouldn’t do is lead people to disobey authority. Once you do that, you’re leading a rebellion, and rebellion doesn’t glorify God.
Romans 13:1 tells us to submit to governing authorities for our own good. Be led by the Spirit of God to do whatever He tells you to, whether people talk about it or not. But remember that all your actions should end up glorifying God, not you. Take yourself out of the picture and serve Jesus.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, thank You for the gift of life. I pray that my life as a leader will follow suit and that organisations built according to divine patterns devoid of rebellion against all forms of authority. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
