“Now while they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him, and the third day He will be raised up.” And they were exceedingly sorrowful.” - Matthew 17:22-23 NKJV
When I was in Sunday school church as a kid, one of the questions that we children frequently asked our teacher almost every Easter season was, “who killed Jesus?” I’ve heard so many people sharing their views in an attempt to answer this question. But the more I listened to them, the more I became confused. I decided to do a personal Bible study to get an answer from the Lord on this question.
After the study, I realized from the scriptures that it was men who killed Jesus, not the devil nor God. God cannot kill Himself, and neither can the devil kill God. Jesus said clearly in Matthew 17:23 that the men who’ll kill him (as the Son of Man, not the Son of God) are those that He would be delivered unto. Jesus laid down His life (John 10:17), but it was men who killed Him.
However, men who do evil things don’t just do it. They usually get inspired by demons to do such things. Men killed Jesus, but the devil inspired them. In John 8:40, Jesus told some Israelites that they were looking for a way to kill him because they wanted to gratify the desires of the devil, whom Jesus referred to them as their father (John 8:44).
In the same way, check who inspires you to do what you’re doing. Is it God or the enemy? Be on your guard. For we are in the days when people who do evil things think they are serving the Lord for those actions. May God guide you this week too.
You’re a blessing.
