Think about how a child instinctively cries out “Mama!” when they falls or feels scared. It’s unsurprising because mothers are there constantly, wiping tears and offering comfort through every trial for the children. So then, that deep bond forms through countless moments of running to her first, knowing she’ll always respond. This same applies to our relationship with God. The greatest way to build intimacy with God is to have Him as your only source, your first and last choice. Read on to explore the beautiful reality of making God your ultimate solution and how you, as a Christian, can do so.

Your fixation is an idol

Throughout the Old Testament and even into the New Testament, God has made it clear that He does not take a liking to idols. An idol is anything that takes your focus away from God. Whatever you become fixated on or find solace in instead of God is considered an idol before Him. Many things can take away a person’s focus from God: money, alcohol, entertainment, music, friends, etc. When you find solace in so many things except God, they all become false gods. Such a thing’s end is temporary peace that does not satisfy. It is only in Christ that all of your problems are completely solved and your hunger and thirst are satisfied.

The power of complete reliance

You can’t say you trust God and keep on holding on to your own plans and your solutions. God is not interested in being your backup plan or your last resort. When you do that, He will wait for you to come to your wits end to your failed ways, so you will come running back to Him. You have free will, but God only gives you what you are ready to receive. So, when you come to Him saying, “You’re all I’ve got, and you’re all I want”, that’s when things change. That’s when you enter a whole new dimension where His power can flow freely, unhindered by your own limitations and backup plans. Psalms 37:5 (KJV) says,

“Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he will establish it.”

Other versions say He will bring it to pass. When you go to church and you are praying, the secret isn’t in how loud you pray or how many tongues you can speak. It’s in that moment of complete surrender when you finally stop trying to be the one with the reigns of your life. That’s when God rises up, not because He wasn’t capable before, but because you’ve finally given Him the space to be God in your life.

God is not interested in being your backup plan or your last resort.

God is your refuge

You can only be stable when you have a singular focus. Consider how contractors build – they don’t start with the beams or walls. No, they spend a lot of time on something people will not even see: the foundation. This single foundation determines everything. It’s the difference between a house that stands and one that crumbles. God doesn’t want to be just another support in your life. He wants to be THE foundation. As for the storms, they will eventually hit because that is life. However, when they hit, it’s not dependent on how many support systems you have but how deeply you are rooted in the most reliable source of security – God.

That is why He invites you every day to the secret place to pray and spend time in His word, building and cultivating a deeper relationship with Him. The beautiful reality is that His word is packed with promises and overflowing with provision – peace, wisdom, strength, and abundance. But they start manifesting when you only have to turn your focus in that direction.

In conclusion, partial trust in God brings partial results. However, complete surrender unlocks the fullness of His power in your life. He’s waiting in the secret place, ready to be not just a part of your life but your very foundation. Are you prepared to let go of every other foundation and make Him your only source? Today, take that step. Release those backup plans, lay down those false securities, and watch how God moves when He becomes your first and only choice.
