The Principle of Single-Focusing

Focus is a necessity to grow every vision. If you don’t give your time to do whatever God has called you to fulfil, that divine mandate won’t reach nations. Jesus knew this. So He described His divine purpose several times in the gospel books. One of them is written in Luke 4:18-19 [NKJV], where He said,

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.”

So Jesus didn’t just preach. He knew it was part of His mission. He came to seek and save that which was lost, both man’s destiny and disorderly worldly systems. In other words, Jesus obeyed the principle of single-focusing on His purpose till He accomplished all His earthly tasks.

What has God called you to do? Until you have a clear answer to this question, you’ll hardly find your life direction because of a lack of vision.

Vision gives birth to purposeful living. And your purpose determines your discipline, which in turn, adds value to your time. It also shows you how to use your resources.

Forget what is behind

In obeisance to the principle of single focusing, you must starve your mind from remembering past hurts and mistakes. Nobody reaches anywhere in life gazing at his past. How can you move forward if you’re constantly looking back?

Even Paul knew this. So he said in Philippians 3:12-13 that,

[12] “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. [13] Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,”

When God starts showing you glimpses of how great your future is, you’ll not have time to lament past hurts and mistakes. You’ll keep looking forward. That is what Jesus knew that made Him endure the cross till the end.

Without self-discipline in doing what is necessary, you’ll do what other people want at the expense of what God has called you to do. Share on X

He was aware that many people would get saved after He had died, resurrected and ascended to heaven. So for the sake of that, He endured the pain of the cross and finished God’s work (Hebrews 2:9-10, Hebrews 12:1-3).

Nobody reaches anywhere in life gazing at his past.

Your life adversities aren’t detours to your destiny. They are necessary for preparation. If you live by this understanding, you will stop blaming people for disappointing and failing you, including your parents. Get up and take responsibility.

Discipline yourself to reach a higher goal

In Proverbs 29:18, the Bible says,

“Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction.”

This verse means a lot to me. It means that where there’s no vision for the future, people live loose lives. That explains why many people are just confused about life. They aren’t decisive on what to do, making them change jobs several times.

Without self-discipline in doing what is necessary, you’ll do what other people want at the expense of what God has called you to do.

Maybe you have a job but have discovered your vision isn’t related to it. Do it with all your might as you prepare to step into the fullness of your calling. However, start apportioning your time to study and do your purposeful tasks from today. You’ll flourish.
