Delight Yourself in the Lord

“Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.” - Psalms 37:4 NKJV

Everybody has desires in his heart, whether good or bad. Some desires get conceived in our minds, but some get stored up in our hearts (often after lengthy meditation). The ones that get stored up in our hearts are hard to forget, but the ones in the mind easily get forgotten.

From the Bible verse above, God is obliged to give you the desires of your heart if and only if you delight your whole self (not a part of your life) in Him. But what does the word “delight” in the scripture mean?

To “delight” means to have a high degree of gratification in mind. When you delight yourself in God, your heart’s desires will be in synchrony with His will for your life. Simply put, you’ll develop a passion for what God loves when you find pleasure in His presence in your life.

How to delight yourself in the Lord

To delight yourself in God, you only have to delight in His Word – (Psalm 1:1-2, Psalm 112:1-2, Psalm 119:16, Psalm 119:47). That is to say, everything about your life must be built and sustained by the foundation of Truth from scripture.

Pastor Craig Groeschel of Life.Church said that every man’s life is moving in the direction of his strongest thoughts. Your predominant thought pattern highly influences how your way of life. Therefore, if you frequently meditate in God’s Word, you’ll walk in His ways, because everything you do will be rooted in your understanding of Scripture. That is what it means to be God’s kingdom-minded.

Seek first God’s kingdom by seeking to know Him more daily, and all things will be added unto your life. Let God’s desires be your desires. Depend on God and commit your future to His hands (Psalm 37:5) and obey Him. He’ll not fail you.
