[24] “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” – Matthew 6:24 (NKJV)
Back in my university days, when my parents and guardians supplied money for me to focus on schooling, I didn’t know how important money was to running lives and economies. I thought money wasn’t so important in life. But after graduating, then I realised I was wrong. Money is very important, and Jesus admitted it. He literally said that a person will either serve God or money. Wow! That means money is a competing “small god” in several lives.
As a minister of the gospel who also has some experience working with unbelievers in the secular world, I can tell you that you cannot serve two masters. You can serve in the ministry as a lay minister and still continue on your job. But even as you do both, God’s work will not make you so money-conscious about your career but actually excellence and impact. In fact, lay ministers in the secular world who support the gospel monetarily usually see their money as a tool in their hands to build God’s work, not to amass wealth unto themselves.
Do not make money your god. Don’t pour your whole soul into your work just because of money. Life is far more than that. God is your definition of life, not changing currency.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your immense love and care in my life. Help me to serve You all the days of my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
