[19] “When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.” – Matthew 13:19 (KJV)
Two days ago, I wrote about how Jesus wants us to prioritise putting His Word into practice. He said that anybody who doesn’t apply what he learns from the Word is likened to a foolish man who builds his life on sand (see Matthew 7:26-27). Today’s devotional anchor actually states what happens to those who fail to understand the Word they hear, which many forget in the long run.
Jesus says that anyone who hears His Word and doesn’t understand it, the devil will catch away that Word that was sown in the person’s heart. That means God’s Word is a seed, which is delicate so much that the devil can steal it if you don’t treasure it by putting up efforts to understand it. Maybe you go to church every Sunday, and your pastor preaches in English, so you think you understand what you hear. That can be true but also a deception. Why? Because God’s Word is Spirit. You cannot understand it with your human inclination. Even if you do, you won’t be able to catch divine revelation from it.
Don’t be a passive churchgoer in Christ. Work on understanding the Word you receive every single time. Don’t just take notes while listening to sermons only to leave it after service. No! Make time to revise it and pray through it. In that way, the devil won’t be able to steal it from your heart.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your Word in my life. Please help me to understand every area of it as I study daily. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
