Don’t Build Your Life on Sand

[26] “But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. [27] The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” – Matthew 7:26-27 (NIV)

As a preacher of the gospel, one thing I have learned, first from the Word and second from experience, is that I don’t determine how well those who listen to me or read my writings practice God’s Word they hear me tell them. My work is to preach the gospel; the listener’s work is to work the Word he hears God use me to preach. And Jesus was evident when He said that in Matthew 7:26.

He said that anyone who hears His words and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. Really? Wow. That means it is one thing to sit in church and hear the Word and another to put the Word you have heard into practice. For the latter, many believers don’t do it because they hardly revise their notes or listen to the sermon podcast even one more time. There are times I’ve listened to my local church’s podcast episode and heard things I never noticed when I was in church. That can be your case.

God has more in store for you. But in most cases, He wants you to listen to Him, study His Word and put what you learn into practice. When you fail to do that, Jesus said your life is like a foolish person who built his life on sand. Guess what happens to a building whose foundation is sand and no concrete or blocks. It is weak. Right? So any strong wind that blows towards it will destroy it.

When you hear God’s Word, you need it to live. Situations will come where you need to apply it. That is how you are to live and experience daily victory in Christ. Don’t build your life on sand by neglecting the practice of the Word, or you’ll be in trouble when issues arise. May the Lord help you and make you prioritise living by His dictates. Amen!

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the power of Your Word over all circumstances. Help me to put every Word I hear from You into practice. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
