Take Responsibility to Follow The Holy Spirit Closely

[25] “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” — Galatians 5:25 NIV

Months ago, while meditating on this scripture, I asked myself, “If God is sovereign and He can control our lives, why, then, do we need to take responsibility to follow the Holy Spirit closely, as Paul says in Galatians 5:25?” Days later, I got the answer.

God has given each man’s will to him. And so we have the power of choice in all that we do. That’s why we can think of doing something, and it gets done. But again, we live in an evil age (see Galatians 1:4), where the devil is the god of the world – manipulating people’s minds to always use their self-will to do bad things. And that explains why evil is rising daily – to the point that this age is called an evil age.

As a child of God, you’re saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8). And that means, Jesus has legally conferred His Lordship over your life (see Romans 10:10) in the Spirit realm.

The word “Lord” means Master. Therefore if Jesus is the Lord of your life, you’re required to intentionally and wilfully submit your whole being unto Him. That includes your time, your love, your finances and your choices. And despite this reality, God remains gentle and not forceful. That is why no matter how great His plan for your life is, you’ll only see its complete manifestation at the end of life when you take responsibility to keep in step with the Holy Spirit.

Don’t be deceived. The Bible says in Romans 6:16 NIV that,

[16] “Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?”

God has given you freedom in Christ. You can do whatever you want. But not everything is beneficial to be spoken of in a believer’s life. Till every part of your life becomes a complete manifestation of Christ, never cease to keep labouring to study and implement the principles of God that govern that life’s realm.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me to know Your mind concerning every area of my life. Permit me not to be slack in knowing you more every step of the way. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
