[27] “Now Jesus and His disciples went out to the towns of Caesarea Philippi; and on the road He asked His disciples, saying to them, “Who do men say that I am?” [28] So they answered, “John the Baptist; but some say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.” [29] He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ.” – Mark 8:27-29 (NKJV)
One of the most prevalent issues that is happening in this current generation is identity crises. Many people live confused because they don’t know who they are and why they exist. Because of this, it has left them settling for normalcy in living. Meanwhile, God has created each person not to be a part of the world’s population but to stand out. In addressing the issue of identity crises, Jesus asked His disciples a simple question. And this is how it goes: “But who do you say that I am?” That’s a really strong question. It’s like summing up the identity of an entire human being in a sentence.
The question went to everyone. But only Peter answered, saying, “You are the Christ.” Later, Jesus confirmed that what Peter said was true, not because he guessed it but because the Father revealed it to him (see Matthew 16:16-17). Here’s a simple revelation you need to walk with. Derive your identity from God, not what men say about you. That is the most secure way of living.
In a generation where information saturation has led many to confusion, refuse to live like everyone wants you to live. Pay the price to follow God’s ways; for that is profitable both here on Earth and in the world to come.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to discover who I am in You. And when I do, help me to live in consciousness of that revelation. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
