Where Do You Store Your Treasures?

[19] “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. [20] But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal” – Matthew 6:19-20 (NIV)

Storage size of mobile phones and laptops is one of the key determinants of their prices. An iPhone 14 pro with a storage size of 256GB will be sold at a higher price than the same one with a 128GB storage size. What am I saying? Your life’s goods storage matters. But it matters more where you store your treasures, especially when the size is enormous. Why? Because no matter your storage size, if the storage material isn’t good, you might be heading towards data loss.

There are some people who toil so hard just to get what they’ll eat, and that is not bad. But some of those people later experience life atrocities that destroy all the physical possessions they have toiled to buy and lay down. That is what Jesus meant when He said, “… where moths and vermin destroy.” That part of the scripture means that if your life is about toiling hard for material gains, you’re not on a solid foundation. One natural disaster can destroy everything. Hmm!

For Jesus to say store up for yourself treasures in heaven, He means that let the inward deposit of your knowledge of God and your kingdom labour be of utmost importance in your life. When you do that, the physical possessions you’ll get will come as blessings from God to help you stay focused on knowing Him better and doing His work, not from your toils. Why? Because He knows you need some things in life to live comfortably and at peace.

Where do you store your treasures? In heaven (the Spirit realm) or on earth? Choose the former because that is the solid foundation upon which you can get the latter without pressures from the world. Don’t worry about how high the cost of things is rising. Trust God to provide for you every step of the way.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your constant provision in my life. May I never lack in any day of my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
