“Death and Destruction are never satisfied, and neither are human eyes.” — Proverbs 27:20 NIV
I’ve had the privilege to walk with several people, men and women alike. Although not all are believers, some have a finicky mentality, especially men. One man sees a lady and says, “she’s beautiful oh.” Then steps away from the first lady, sees another one and says the same thing. In the end, these people become confused. Do you know why? It’s because they don’t understand the flesh profits anything (John 6:63).
In Proverbs 27:20, Solomon compares death and destruction to how unsatisfied the human eyes are. Death isn’t a respecter of persons, and so is destruction. That’s why both the poor and rich still get sick sometimes. But what about the human eye? God didn’t make it to draw satisfaction from anything earthly. That also explains what Jesus said in Luke 12:15 NIV — “… life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”
What you see cannot satisfy you – whether humans, products or other material possessions. None of them can fulfil the deep yearning in your soul. God placed that hunger there, so you’ll always desire to connect to Him and view things according to His lenses.
Young man in Christ, stop viewing life by your own calculations. Seek to know God intimately each day. His Word is the lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path (Psalm 119:105). He’ll guide you.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, in Jesus’ name, help me see according to Your lenses and not my own thinking. I choose to lean on Your Word to interpret everything about my life. Amen!
