The Ultimate Goal For Doing Everything

“Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” — 1 Corinthians 10:31 NKJV

What inspires what you do daily? Is it people pleasing, out of responsibility/necessity or for the glory of God? We live in a busy world; where there’s a high demand for labour input in several places (homes, offices, etc.), some of which don’t require any compensation.

For example, some wives have made it an obligation to cook for their husbands daily at home out of marital responsibility. And truth be told, that’s not bad. But I’ve seen many women tired of doing this because of fatigue and poorly defined cultural values. I don’t perceive the act as wrong; I see a problem with the motive for doing it.

When I was a little boy, my Mummy used to cook for her husband and three boys. She hasn’t stopped. In fact, she has improved. Nevertheless, she got a different spiritual understanding about it that made doing this thing a pleasure for her. What’s it? She always knew she was a helper and a parent.

Women are helpers. When Mummy cooks for me to eat if I’m at home, I need physical strength to continue doing God’s work and fulfilling my divine mandate. Hence, she’s contributing to my kingdom service but not to the eyesight of the people I minister to.

There are so many people who serve in the body of Christ behind the scenes that feel less than or unappreciated. Some churches express value to these people, especially the volunteers. But what if you’re part of them and your pastor doesn’t do it? Your conscience will question your motive for serving the Lord. You’ll ask yourself, “Am I doing this to please man or God?”

The ultimate goal for doing everything is to glorify God, not to please yourself or another person. Because of a truth, God sees your heart’s intent for doing anything (Proverbs 16:2). And though you can deceive man, you can’t con God. Paul understood this. So he urged the Corinthian church, now to us, that we should glorify God in everything we do, including eating and drinking.

Life is filled with many things, and if you don’t know God or hear Him give you direction, you’ll end up doing many things without getting your motive right. Friend, don’t do anything just for doing sake. Commit what you do to the Lord with a pure mentality.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Father, in Jesus’ name, help me get the motive for doing everything right all the time. Remind me that in You I live, move and have my being so that my deeds will be pleasing in Your sight each day. Amen!
