[43] “Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant.” – Mark 10:43 (NKJV)
In life, everybody wants to be great. God knows this and has no problem with people having that desire. But His problem is what people do in an attempt to achieve that desire. Today, many think being great is about having lots of money, properties and other material possessions. So, they consult cultic spirits and do illegal business to get rich, only to have a bad end.
Having the desire to be great is not a problem, and it’s not a recent desire in the minds of this generation. No! It dates way back to the days of the scriptures. Jesus appointed twelve disciples of different backgrounds to assist Him in ministry. On day one, none of them showed any sign of comparison. But a few years down the line, they started arguing among themselves about who would be the greatest.
For some leaders, the moment this issue sprouts up in their organisation, they sense greed rising in the employees’ lives, so they silence them quickly. But Jesus didn’t do that. He provided them the way to be great in God’s kingdom. That is, carry a servant mindset.
According to Jesus, serving many with what God has given you is what counts for your greatness, not what you have or some money in your account. This boils down to the truth that desiring to be great without having a transactional mindset of helping others will turn that desire into greed and self-gratification, which God doesn’t like. Give glory to God for what you have and will ever get. It is well with you.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to always carry a servant mindset in life, lest I use any gift or possession you’ve given me for personal glory. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
