[34] “You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” – Matthew 12:34 (NIV)
Did you know that the mouth speaks what the heart is full of? In other words, what you consistently say is a reflection of what you have kept and brooded in your heart. That is why it is not surprising to me when a person displays dismal behaviour after keeping quiet about a matter for a long time.
When you harbour offences in your heart, it’ll grow until it makes you a wild serial offender capable of even killing as a way of seeking revenge. Maybe you think I’m getting it wrong here. Look at Absalom in the Bible. When Amnon raped his half-sister Tamar, who happened to be the biological sister of Absalom, this guy (Absalom) didn’t say anything to the brother for two years. Eventually, he ended up stabbing and killing Amnon. Maybe, that is Old Testament. Let’s look at the New Testament.
Jesus rebuked the Pharisees several times, especially when they were pretending to behave well before Him. Why? He knew they were offended by what He had been doing. Guess what? Was it not the same people who the devil used to kill Jesus?
When you are interacting with someone and the person utters harsh words in times of anger, it could be that those words were already prepared to be said in the heart before the situation happened. Indeed, the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. So, to keep your words clean, don’t entertain bitterness in your heart.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your Word in my heart. Keep it clean from all forms of filth and bitterness. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
