[31] “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.” – Ephesians 4:31 (NIV)
Bitterness is a poison that affects the peace of a person’s heart. Where there is bitterness, peace is absent in relationships, visions get stunted due to unforgiveness, and unity among involved parties is destroyed. Many people have lost great friendships due to bitterness and unforgiveness. Can this be prevented?
The Bible tells us in Ephesians 4:31 that we should get rid of all bitterness as believers in Christ. That means a person can’t go through life without getting bitter someday. In fact, Jesus said in Luke 17:1 that it’s impossible for offences not to come. So, dear Christian, you will get bitter because someone will offend you. But to God’s glory, you can get rid of it.
To get rid of bitterness, you must expunge holding on to offences in your heart. That means you ought to forgive people as quickly as possible whenever they offend you. If you don’t do it, you’ll give the devil the chance to make you meditate on your pain instead of God’s forgiveness.
Dear friend, your destiny is too great to stay offended by what others do to you. May the Lord give you strength to walk in His will every day.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me get rid of all the bitterness in my heart concerning any grudge I have encountered from any person. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
