[6] “The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” – Romans 8:6 (NIV)
The word “flesh” is used multiple times in the New Testament. Sometimes, it refers to the human body (as in Galatians 2:20). Another time, it relates to the sinful nature of the fallen person. In the anchor scripture of today’s devotional, “flesh” in Romans 8:6 refers to the sinful nature. Alright. Now that you get it, let’s see what the Scripture means when it says that the mind governed by the flesh is death.
In Romans 3:23, the Bible tells us that the wages of sin is death. Translated word “death” in that scripture is the same word used in Romans 8:6, which means “corruption.” So, any person’s mind governed by sin and its desire to indulge in it lives in a corrupt state before God. Such a person won’t appreciate how valuable spiritual things in Christ are in life. That is why they are unbelievers. They need Jesus, and who is going to preach to them? You, the one Jesus has sent.
See, it is not good to be enjoying Christ and have your mind governed by the Holy Spirit while others are suffering in spiritual bonds, some of which you don’t know about. Do you want the people you know and love to live in death? Of course not. Right? So, reach out to them with the gospel today. May the Lord strengthen you as you draw out your soul to the hungry.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your unfailing kindness in my life. Please help me keep preaching to the lost so they will come to the light. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
