“[15] Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. And the Lord God said, [18] “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” — Genesis 2:15, 18 NKJV
Did you know that purpose existed before marriage? Well, it’s plain in the scriptures. God created Adam first and gave him work to do. That is, to tend and keep the garden of Eden. Then three verses after, God got an idea to make a suitable helper for Adam, which is Eve. However, God didn’t immediately act on that idea.
Reading Genesis 2:19-20, God brought the beasts of the field and birds of the air to Adam to see what he’d call them. Adam did his work well. He called them by the exact names God had already determined them.
Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name.
Genesis 2:19 NKJV
So God, having seen that Adam was faithful in handling tasks related to his divine mandate, proceeded to make a helper suitable for him. In this case, God formed Eve.
It’s not God first, marriage second, ministry third. No! It’s God first, and the mission of Jesus merged together with your marriage.

Adam knew his purpose and was on the way to fulfilling it through diligent service. He never thought of marriage since he hadn’t seen it before, although he needed a helper.
Today, this system of God hasn’t changed. Before God helps you to get a mate, He’ll test you by checking your attitude to service in His kingdom no matter where you find yourself. I say this because this test isn’t only related to church activities. If you’re faithful in those things, He can entrust you with a spouse to cater for and help you.
Friend, don’t make an idol of your marriage. It’s not God first, marriage second, ministry third. No! It’s God first, and the mission of Jesus merged together with your marriage. Each spouse is to help the other fulfil God’s purpose for their lives.
If you’re a bachelor, don’t worry about finding a wife soon. Likewise, if you’re a spinster, don’t be anxious about getting a husband. Focus on following Jesus. Serve the Lord diligently, and your paths will cross.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, thank you for blessing my life with the revelation that purpose existed before marriage according to Genesis 2:15-20. Let me not drift from Your Truth and make an idol of my marriage. Lead and guide me in the way everlasting. Amen!
