[28] “Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?” [29] Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” – John 6:28-29 (NKJV)
Frankly speaking, Jesus was one person who had a lot of people asking Him weird questions during His time on Earth. One time, some of the Israelites wanted to know what it takes to work the works of God. I believe they asked because Jesus had condemned the way the Pharisees did ministry so much that the people didn’t believe in the priest again. But, guess Jesus’ answer? To work the works of God, the people must believe in the One sent of God – that is, the same Jesus who said that.
So here is the truth. Believing in Jesus is work. But you may ask, how does believing relate to work? Well, interestingly, someone asked me a similar question in church. See, we are in a race of faith. That race must be run with patience, not with a rushy spirit (see Hebrews 12:1). Therefore, believing God every step of the way is very, very important. And that activity, in its entirety, is work. In fact, that work is difficult.
Do you know what it means to receive a great divine vision from God but not see its manifestation for years? And anytime you ask God about it, He tells you to have faith and be patient. Just think about it! Think about Joseph being shown a dream of ruling over his family, yet an enslaved person in a foreign land for years.
Child of God, I want to encourage you to keep believing. But more importantly, don’t be obsessed with the destination; enjoy the process. In the process of doing God’s work, there are things you’ll do that are very awkward. God may lead you to take on menial jobs with bad bosses who don’t care about your well-being. But hey, remember that it’s for a season. It won’t be like that forever because God will lift you. Just keep being faithful to Him because He is with you.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your lovingkindness in my life. Help me to love You more and to keep believing the words You have said concerning my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
