“Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, leading to edification. For even Christ did not please Himself; but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached You fell on Me.” - Romans 15:2-3 NKJV
A neighbour in Christ refers to a brethren in the same fellowship. Physical neighbours are close to one another in terms of their residence. In the same way, neighbours in Christ are close to one another, and for that reason, they share some things in common.
Sometimes it becomes challenging to love the brethren as Christ did because of misbehaviour from some of them. In those moments, we must recognize that whatever we share together is for the cause of Christ, not just for ourselves.
According to Romans 15:2, the Bible tells us that each should please his neighbour for his good, leading to edification. When you please your neighbour, you’re doing it for your own good. Why? Because through acts of love, you’ll have the opportunity to grow in the manifestation of God’s love toward people, which in turn edifies you.
We must grow to the point where we won’t focus on what others do to show love to us but rather give them love as we receive it from Jesus. Forget about the minor hitches among yourselves as brethren. Hate sin, not sinners. Please your neighbour by loving them in deed and truth, not just in words.
You’re a blessing.
