“[1] My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism.” — James 2:1 NIV
Have you seen a person treating a friend with more respect than others because of what they have? What impression does it make to you? Did you ever feel that person is selective in his dealings? I suppose it’s a “Yes.”
See, before each person came into this world, even as toddlers, none of us had anything. We all came here naked but in different families. And because of the variations, some people have more possessions than others. That won’t change. But the moment you start treating people based on what they have, you’re actually valuing some people less than others, which is wrong. All humans aren’t the same. Everyone is valuable despite the differences in wealth and things acquired.
Dear pastor, take the warning Apostle James wrote in James 2:1 seriously. Don’t treat rich people in your church more important than others, just because of favours you’ll need from them to finance ministerial projects. Treat people well as Jesus would treat them primarily because they are all God’s heritage. In that way, you’ll portray to them that God’s love has no loopholes.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Lord, strengthen me to treat people well as You value them. Help me to manifest Your love to people in Your way, including the undeserving. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
