[1] “Woe to you who are complacent in Zion, and to you who feel secure on Mount Samaria, you notable men of the foremost nation, to whom the people of Israel come!” — Amos 6:1 NIV
As a young believer, I used to think church was all about sitting down to listen to God’s Word every Sunday without any kingdom-related work. But this mindset got destroyed years ago when I received my special calling to internet ministry. Now, I get so busy that I wonder if there’s enough space for me to rest for long without any ministerial work. But I saw in Amos 6:1 that there’s none, not just for me, but for all believers.
The first part of the scripture says, “Woe to you who are complacent in Zion.”
Zion, in that verse, is a symbolic name representing God’s kingdom, which every believer is a part of. So if the Word says woe to a believer complacent in God’s kingdom, then it means there’s no space for laziness in Christ. I hope you got that.
It’s dangerous to be a Christian without service in the body of Christ. I’m not talking about just doing something in church. No! I’m speaking about serving God, no matter what you’re doing.
Spend time with God to discover the His divine gift in you. Refine it through training and consistent practice. And then serve it to your generation. If you belong to a ministry and they have space for your gift, serve God in that space. If not, seek permission to create that office in their administration – unless God has called you to start your ministry.
As the saying goes, “The devil finds work for idle hands.” Complacency is one step away from idleness. You’re born again to be in a relationship with God. And an outflow of that relationship should be your service unto His kingdom in the gladness of your heart (see Psalm 100:2).
Be mindful of the people you keep in company with. Let them be like-minded ministers who’ll inspire you to serve God amidst life’s challenges. You’ll be grateful unto God for this, if not now, later.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your work in us to will and do Your good pleasure. Give us meaning to life by presenting kingdom-related tasks that’ll always keep us constantly reminded of the fulfilment of Your dominion mandate. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
