“and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.” - Luke 2:7 NIV

Before Jesus was born, there was a census in the whole Roman world (Bethlehem inclusive since Israel was in bondage to the Roman empire in the time of Christ). That necessitated the family (Mary and Joseph) to move to Bethlehem to be registered.

Now, we don’t know whether they arrived at the town early or not. But since Mary was pregnant, it’s evident that they reached their hometown late. And that means the place was already crowded with migrants. There was no guest room available for them to lodge. So the question is, what did they do when Mary was in labour?

Among all the Bible translations I’ve read, I didn’t see in any of the four gospel books of the Bible describing where Jesus was born. The Bible only says He was laid in a manger. If the maternal processes Mary went through during Jesus’ birth weren’t captured in the context of scripture, then it means God doesn’t want us to know it. After all, all the things He has revealed in His Word are for us (Deuteronomy 29:29).

Friend, I want to tell you something profound. God disallows many people from seeing the training seasons of the people He raises to be mighty in His kingdom. You may face some challenges that others may know, but they’ll not know every difficulty you encounter.

Maybe you’ve gone to a place for a job, and they tell you there’s no vacancy. Can I encourage you today? If there was no guest room available for Jesus’ parents, yet Jesus was born safely without any complications, then God knows how to help you beyond human understanding. Hope in God for the best and keep moving forward as He leads you.

You’re a blessing.
