[39] When He came in, He said to them, “Why make this commotion and weep? The child is not dead, but sleeping.” — Mark 5:39 NKJV
Right after Jesus experienced virtue going out of Him which healed a woman suffering from haemorrhage, some people from Jairus’ house came to tell him that his daughter was dead. But before that, the man had told Jesus to come to his house to heal her (see Mark 5:23).
Those people came to deliver bad news to their master Jarius. But Jesus, overhearing what they said, replied to them, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” Then, He went into the house with a few of his disciples.
Upon getting there, he saw a commotion in the house with people crying here and there. Jesus could have been sad. But he said, “… The child is not dead, but sleeping.”
By human inclination, the child was already dead. But Jesus redefined the situation by His words of faith. He knew that negative words don’t inspire faith, especially the faith to raise the dead.
What you say when you face a situation affects how you approach it. Let God redefine your situation by seeing it as He sees it, not by what natural people see or say.
One minister said, “Choices are more powerful than statistics.” So many people can tell you, “It won’t work.” But go for what God said, whether you lose close friendships or not.
Even Jesus didn’t go to the child’s room to heal her with all his disciples. He went with just three of them – Peter, James and John, who later became the pillars of the early church.
Sometimes, close associates pull away when the battle gets tough. But with God on your side, keep making progress by steps inspired by faith. It is well with you!
Prayer:
Father, thank You for assuring me that You’ll never leave nor forsake me (see Hebrews 13:5b). Empower me to see situations right – according to Your perspective, and not to get demoralised by people’s negative words. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
