One time, Jesus crossed over a lake after getting sacked by the Gadarenes to do ministry. According to the gospel of Mark 5, the town wasn’t mentioned. But when He got down, a large crowd gathered around Him (Mark 5:21). And from among the crowd, a Pharisee named Jarius approached Jesus and said,
“… My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.”
Mark 5:23 (NKJV)
Jesus didn’t hesitate. He went with him right away. But on the way, a woman with the issue of blood pursued Jesus for her healing. She got it, but it delayed the time Jesus would have arrived at Jairus’ house. So because if they, the girl died.
Encourage the brokenhearted, not the news reporters
As Jesus spoke to that woman who was just cured of haemorrhage, reporters came to Jesus and told Him that Jairus’ daughter is dead. They weren’t lying. However, Jesus’ reply was exceptional. He told Jarius, not the news reporters, “Do not be afraid; just believe.” He knew Jarius was brokenhearted. Meanwhile, his brokenheartedness isn’t what will bring the miracle he expected Jesus to do. He told him to have faith and he believed. Eventually, Jesus raised this young lady from the dead and gave her back to her father.
What can we learn here? When you are close to someone who has just received sad news, speak faith-filled words to encourage him first.
Build a strong atmosphere of faith
When Jesus went to Jarius’ house, he took only three disciples to go to the daughter’s room – Peter, James and John (Mark 5:37). He took people around him that would inspire His faith in order to raise the child from the dead.
In the midst of extreme discouragement, don’t call people who’ll increase your depression. Speak to faith-filled like-minded believers, and let them encourage you. Jesus needed to use this wisdom in order to build a good atmosphere for an exploit of faith.
Jarius had Jesus to help him in a difficult situation. You may not have Jesus physically with you. However, put a check on your association. Keep good company because it’s they that will help you in difficult times. You’re a blessing.
