Let Calmness Lay Great Offences to Rest

[4] “If a ruler’s anger rises against you, do not leave your post; calmness can lay great offenses to rest.” – Ecclesiastes 10:4 (NIV)

One of the most strenuous things to do in life as a Christian is to live with an unbeliever or an ungodly ruler. Why do I say that? Because that person’s whole ideology about everything doesn’t reflect the teachings of God’s Word in any way. And interestingly, Paul told us to submit to such bosses in Colossians 3:22. Because you, the devout believer, think in alignment with God’s ways, relating to such an unbelieving ruler becomes difficult. But one of the most potent and well-tested ways to endure such situations is to stay calm.

In Ecclesiastes 10:4, Solomon tells us that if a ruler rises against you, your calmness can lay his anger to rest. Just imagine that. If you defend yourself against such an unbelieving person, he cannot understand you because he doesn’t think like you. So, if you shut up, it prevents you from giving him a basis to say evil things about you.

Calmness speaks volumes in the midst of troubles. But if you don’t pray before facing such situations, it’s very unbearable. Before Jesus was arrested and endured the sufferings of the cross, He prayed for hours in the garden of Gethsemane. So He used divine strength to endure the cross and bear the shame.

Listen, dear believer, let your calmness lay great offences to rest. Stop explaining yourself to people who are always bent on misunderstanding you. It’s your relationship with God and your vision. Nobody is going to believe you at first. People will think of making you live or behave like what everyone else is used to. But don’t give in to worldliness. Be set apart unto God; He will honour you.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for giving me the wisdom to be calm in the midst of turbulent situations. I pray, in the name of Jesus, lay every false claim levelled against me to rest now. Amen!
