“Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.” — Romans 12:19 NIV
What do you do when someone angers you? Do you decide intentionally to repay the person with evil deeds, or do you forgive the person? Well, it’s better to forgive than to avenge. And let me say that because of so-called revenge, some people are in jail today.
According to Luke 17:1 (NIV), Jesus said,
“Jesus said to his disciples: “Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, …”.
So from the verse above, offences are inevitable to happen in your life as a Christian, and they can heighten in relationships and marriages. But what do you do?
One of the ways of curbing this situation is to leave room for God’s wrath instead of taking revenge. In other words, submit your pain to God in prayer to deal with your offender.
Get the point. There are laws in every country. Taking matters into your own hands to do evil against someone might end you in jail. Even if not, it might cause a break in a godly relationship such that it may be hard for you to recover again. Let your pain build forgiveness in your heart, and don’t imprison anybody in it. For it’s only one, and its content ought to be pure.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, I pray in the name of Jesus, help me to walk in forgiveness. When I’m tempted to take revenge on people who’ve offended me, remind me of Your love. I choose to submit my pain for Your healing. Amen!
